Several studies (see video) have found that toxic substances, many of which have been banned for decades, can be found in our bodies. Most saddening to me is that many of these subtances have been found in the blood of umbilical cords of pregnant women, meaning that children are exposed to harmful chemicals before they’re even born. The EWG just tested the blood from 10 minority women’s umbilical cords from Dec 2007 to June 2008 for 383 chemicals. They found 232 of them, including lead and PCBs. Most alarming to me is that 9 out of the 10 samples tested positive for BPA, a chemical I have longed to see banned but that the FDA continues to declare safe.
