Americans are eating more meat than ever before, according to a local newspaper (whose source was The Humane Society of the United States). Check out these stats comparing our meat consumption from 1950 to 2007:
- Amount of chicken consumed per person in 1950: 21 lbs. In 2007: 87 lbs.
- Amount of beef consumed per person in 1950: 44 lbs. In 2007: 66 lbs.
- Total meat consumed per person in 1950: 144 lbs. In 2007: 222 lbs.
222 pounds of meat per year? That’s almost 2/3 lb of meat per day! Even when our family ate meat on a regular basis, we only had 1-3 lbs each week. How much meat do you eat? Do you eat it every day?
