We’re making this for Super Bowl Sunday. It’s insanely cheap to make yourself and so good with veggies, chips, pita, or even toast.
Ingredients:
8 oz dried chickpeas, covered with water and soaked overnight
juice of 2 large lemons
2/3 cup tahini paste
2 garlic cloves, crushed
3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
pinch of ground cumin
salt and pepper to taste

A friend just informed me of this article which discusses two studies that found mercury in high fructose corn syrup. I haven’t looked into the issue futher, but thought I would share the link. I wonder what kind of ads the Corn Refiners Association will have to run to combat studies like these…

For over a decade, I’ve used Kotex tampons. They were comfortable and I just got in the habit of always picking up that purple box without really thinking twice about my decision. But the tampons are bleached white, have a plastic applicator, and come wrapped in plastic. About two years ago, I decided it was [...]

One year ago almost to the day, I posted an entry about the Environmental Working Group’s Human Toxome Project and the corresponding Body Burden website. Last week, I recommended a book I’d just finished reading–The Read-Aloud Handbook. I must confess that in our house, we read A LOT to our 3-year old. He gets 5-10 books read to him each day, sometimes totaling more than an hour of reading. We have recently given chapter books a try and he’ll actually [...]
