12 Gifts of Christmas: day 4

4: Soap and Candles

Liquid soaps can pose so many problems–made with sodium laurel sulfates, artificial fragrances, petroleum-based ingredients, and preservatives. And they’re stored in plastic bottles. What ever happened to good old bar soap? A nice bar of soap, made with all natural ingredients and scented with essential oils, makes a lovely gift. I personally love soaps scented with lavender. Look for ones that contain only natural ingredients–the fewer the better! The Tumbleweed Soap Co makes a great exfoliating lavender bar and a Baby Face one with chamomile and calendula. The Calendula Baby Soap from Weleda is another personal favorite! Notice how for both companies, all the ingredients are fully disclosed on the website.

Another nice gift would be a soy candle. Traditional candles are petroleum based and increase our reliance on oil. I love the pomegranate and Macintosh Apple soy candles from the Tumbleweed Soap Co.
